From the April-May-June 1960 [#6] issue of "Aday to Remember", a genealogical packet, comes the following about him, originally from the Herald Tribune, Sunday, Mary 8, 1960, New York: "Framingham, Mass., May 7.--William M. Wherry, eighty-two, New York attorney who was one of the prime movers in the organization of the Lawyer's Referral Service, died today in Memorial Hospital. He lived at 125 E. 74th St., New York.
"Mr. Wherry was a senior partner in the firm of Wherry and Weadock, 375 Park Ave., New York. The Lawyers' Referral Service provides inexpensive legal advice to persons with small incomes who cannot afford other legal aid.
"Directed Bar Service. Between 1948 and 1951 Mr. Wherry was chairman of the American Bar Assocation's Committee on Lawyer Referral Service. He directed the association's effort to extend the service throughout the country.
"Colombia Law Graduate. Mr. Wherry was graduated from the University of Michigan in 1898, studied law at the Univesity of Cincinnati and Columbia, and admitted to the bar in 1900. He was a past chairman on the Committee of Professional Ethics of the New York State Bar Association and a fomer director and chairman of the New York County Lawyers' Association Committee on Aeronautical Law.
"Mr. Wherry wrote three books on various phases of law and numerous pamphlets and articles on preventive law and on children of unstable families. He was a member of the Union League Club of New York, the Loyal Legion, Phi Beta Kappa, and Phi Delta Phi..."
