42 "...she was the daughter of Jan Corneliszen and Sophia (Martense) Damen,
and her father's uncle, Jan Damen, owned the Wall Street section of lower
Manhattan, ...in the 20th Century the most valuable real estate in the
world. Michael adapted well to the heterogeneous culture of the
metropolis peopled by Dutch, French, and English immigrants; while still
in his twenties he was a magistrate at Brooklyn in 1679 (and again in
1691), ...serving also as a Lieutenant in the Foot Guard.

He and his wife sold their mill at Bushwick in 1695, and their home there
in 1699, (NYGBR-54), joining his father at Kingston; not long thereafter
they settled at Poughkeepsie. The 1714 Census shows their household as
composed of one male over 60, two males 16 or over and one under 16; one
female between 16 and 60, two under 16, and two slaves. Since Peter (3)
then had his own domicile, the two males were presumably Jan and Michael
Jr., with Damen (3), the youngest, under 16.

43 "8 Sept 1815 Sileas Flournoy vs James Austin, debt $636.24 ...From the handwriting of various entries concerning cases where Aalfred M. Harris is attorney, which entries he makes himself, which handwriting is same as these entries. Harris was Flournoy's attorney. Silas Flournoy at that time was living in Davidson County, Tennessee east of Nashville where Mud Tavern Station in the Lebanon railroad stands. His wife Martha Cannon is buried there. He was my great grandfather. He came to Davidson County in 1807 and to Giles County in 1816. He was the son of Samuel Flournoy of Powhatan County Virginia who died at his place, Farmington, near Jude's Ferry of the James River in October 1780, and who himself was one of the sons of the immigrant, John James Flournoy. Samuel is buried at Farmington. I do not know where the immigrant is buried. He died in March 1740. The decent of this immigrant from Laurent Flournoy who died in France after the massacre of St. Bartholomew in 1572." Flournoy, Silas F. (I3309)

45 "ALLEN W. ETTER, the junior member of the firm of Klemmer & Etter, wholesale and retail dealers in flour, feed, grain, and hay, was born in Nova Scotia, May 14, 1854.

His parents, James and Eliza Ann (McKean) Etter were both natives of Nova Scotia. Their ancestors were from Holland.

Allen W. is the eighth of their eleven children, nine of whom are living. He was reared in his native place, educated in the common schools, and learned the wagon-maker's trade. He worked there until he was twenty-four years of age when he came to California and located in Princeton, Colusa County. There he remained four years, working at his trade.

In 1886 he came to Redding and formed a partnership with Mr. Klemmer. They are enterprising men and are doing a fine business.

In politics, Mr. Etter is a liberal Democrat. He is a member of the I.O.O.F. and has passed all the chairs of the order several times."
