"Abraham resigned from the US Senate to found the first Bank of VA and become its first President. Trustee of Hampden-Sidney College; never married and died intestate. When his property was divided, "Longwood,"the plantation home, fell to his older brother, Samuel Woodson Venable.
"Gabriel's Rebellion: The VA Slave Conspiracies of 1800 and 1802," by D.R. Egerton: "Abraham B. Venable, to whose committee the question had been referred, rose unsteadily and began to read a two-part resolution...."this committee suggested that a homeland be obtained "to which free negroes or mulattoes, and such negroes or mulattoes as may be emancipated, may be sent or choose to remove as a place of asylum"
