    Notes:

    U.S. minister to Switzerland. Three times member of Missouri Legislature, once member of Congress, at one time U.S. District Attorney, and three times a member of Missouri State Constitutional Conventions, the last in 1875, which framed the present Constitution of Missouri. He was also a member of the Charter Convention to frame a special government for the city of St. Louis.
