SANK TO A WATERY GRAVE BENEATH THE SCIOTO, Sixteen Year Old Carl Roseboom is Drowned at Poor House Ford...Went In Swimming....Sunday Morning With Brother and Companion And When Both The Roseboom Lads Cried For Help Oliver Boy Saved One, but Could Not Reach The Other ---Body Recovered in Afternoon
-------------------------------------------
Carl Roseboom the sixteen year old son of Mr. & Mrs. William Roseboom who lived on the farm of Mrs. Charles Miesse across the River from the County Infirmary, met death by drowning in the Scioto River about 11 o'clock Sunday morning. The boy with his younger brother, Forrest and Leslie Overly, who lives near the Rosebooms were swimming in the River and the fatality was apparently due to his getting beyond his depth.
All three boys swam out to a sand bar and started back, when both the Roseboom boys began to shout for help. Young Overly started to the assistance of Forrest, who was the nearer of the two, and got him safely out to shore. When looking back they saw Carl go under several times and disappear.
Help was immediately summoned, but all attempts to locate the boy were unsuccessful, until about half past 3 o'clock in the afternoon when the body was found over 200 hundred feet from the place where he was last seen.
Coroner Welch was summoned, and the remains were removed to the Rosebooms home in Ware's ambulance.
The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock from the Hopetown Church Rev. Rose officiating.
Interment will be made in the Cemetery near by.
