- Fifth son of Captain Daniel Benedict and Sarah Hickok. He served in the French Indian War and in the Connecticut Militia out of Waterbury, Ct., during the American Revolution.
Benedict is a true American Hero, participating in the march to aid the Continental Army at North River, at Fishkill, and at the battle for Quebec. After the war, he migrated to Middlebury, Connecticut and received a pension for his services.
He represented Middlebury in the legislature from 1809-1810, and was a delegate from Middlebury to the constitutional convention in 1818. He was the father of Aaron Benedict, founder of the Waterbury Brass Co., the company instrumental in Waterbury's development as a manufacturing force in the 19th century.
