- Mr. Brockman was a planter and owned slaves.
He and his wife are buried in the graveyard at the Brockman homestead, about midway between Spartanburg and Greenville, and not far from Reidville.
HENRY BROCKMAN 1761-1835 Son of Col JOHN BROCKMAN
The flat stone reads as follows: Sacred to the memory of HENRY BROCKMAN of Greenville District of SC. He was born in Virginia on the 18th day of December 1761 and departed this life on the 11th day of April 1835. Having lived out his threescore and ten years. He was permitted to depart in peace. He was a member of the Baptist church for 50 years and a deacon of the same for 40 years. Was never called to account for any offense either in church or state and the only Epitaph he wished inscribed on his tomb was her is a good old man.
SUSANNAH 1765 - 1835 Wife of HENRY BROCKMAN
The flat stone reads as follows: Sacred to the memory of Susannah Brockman she was born in Virginia in 1765 and departed this life in the Greenville District of SC on the 11th day of June 1812. She joined the Baptist church in early life and was truly pious. Always read to instruct and administer to the wants of others. She was afflicted through life but never complained. Her last words were I am ready to depart and be with my savior. Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord. Yea saith the spirit they rest from their labors and ?? do follow them.
Henry Brockman's will was signed 19 July 1834 and probated April 20, 1835.
