  • Notes
    • As reported by his daughter Barbara S. Hanes:
Daddy was from Reger MO, the youngest of 8 children. His parents knew very little English and spoke mostly German. The children were bright and schooling was a serious matter. He got a bachelor's degree in Cameron Mo., and a Masters from Iowa Wesleyan.

He was a high school football coach and teacher when he met mother in Tribute KS. In 1922 he and mother were married, and he accepted a job in Deming NM. He was in the National Guard Cavalry.

In 1927 they moved to Alamogordo (N.M.) where he became high school principal.

About 1930 they moved back to Hale (Mo) where he became a collector for equipment purchased by farmers. Later, he became a "blockman" selling International Harvester equipment to dealers throughout MO.

In 1936 we moved to Parsons KS where he had a larger territory for IH. During the war he worked for the Government teaching Mexicans how to farm sugar beets - he spoke Mexican.

After the war he and a friend bought the International Harvester dealership in Fort Scott which he ran until his death from a heart attack in 1949.
