- Fred helped his father Nelson raising and breaking horses. After Nelson's death, Fred continued on for years, then ran a pack station in the Sierra's. Fred at time worked as an engineer, was in mining, and in later years managed the Stockton ranch near Irvington, CA. Info from Linda Schaaf, his granddaughter.
