Notes |
- According to Lionel van Kleeck, Basil's son, informed this writer that
Basil could play any string instrument by ear. They would have dances at
his home for the neighborhood, rolling up the carpet in the living room
and Basil would play his banjo. Basil was also an avid sportsman, hunting
bear, deer and fowl.

(believe he means Basil van Kleeck), a local farmer and blacksmith who
was also a dance caller".
Page 111 "Every Friday night found Mike at the square dance led by George
(believe he means Basil) van Kleeck who played the accordion and knew an
amazing number of old Catskill calls. Mike accompanied with his harmonica
and bones."
