    • From eBay: Here's a very nice signed cdv of a Civil War soldier in his fatigue jacket. On the back is written in pencil, "Yours Truly, Will H. Roseboom, Comp. K, OH.V.V., Decatur, Ala." (I'm not sure whether that H is correct or not as it is tough to read his penmanship in the light pencil). This came with several other cdv's of men in his same company, one of which is unsigned but may be his younger brother who also enlisted in the company a few years after Will did. There appears to be (in my opinion) a strong family resemblance. Check out the auction for that soldier where I show a side by side comparison. The back of the card has the photographer's id as J.P. Morrow, Photographic Rooms, Adjoining Public Square, Greenfield, OH. Researching this soldier I have found that William H. Roseboom entered the service at age 19 on Nov. 18, 1861. He was appointed Corporal Nov. 6, 1864 and then 1st. Sergt. of Co. K, 63rd. O.V.I. on Feb. 12, 1865. This company saw a lot of action! Lost a total of 357 men! This company was originally organized Jan. 1862 under Col. John W. Sprague; it immediately took the field and joined General Pope in Missouri. It took part in all the major operations resulting in the surrender of Island No. 10. In April it joined General Halleck's forces before Corinth. After the evacuation it operated in Northern Alabama, and participated in the battles of Iuka and Corinth under Rosecrans. During 1863 it operated mostly in Northern Ala. and Tenn. In Jan. 1864, the Reg. Re-enlisted for 3 years. And went to Ohio on veteran furlough. In May it joined Sherman's Atlanta campaign and shared in all the battles to the end, when it marched to the sea and through the Carolinas. Took part in the grand review at Washington and went to Louisville, where it mustered out July 8, 1865. A more detailed History will accompany this picture. But as you can tell this man saw a lot of action and lived to tell about it!
