Notes |
- My husbamd and I spent some time in Virginia last year and have found two earlier wives for Samuel Yeargan. I descend from the first wife, Anne Booth. Please feel free to add this information to that which I sent you below. I have also proven that Samuel Yeargain did not have the first Methodist Chapel in Virginia, as stated by editor in travel journal of Methodist Bishop Francis Asbury but that it was in fact just across the state line into Northampton County., North Carolina, on the north side of the Roanoke River, the part which became Warren County. 2-3 years before Yeargain wrote his will. His land, house and chapel (sites) are now under Lake Gaston which was formed by backing up the Roanoke River. Yeargain was also in charge of road which abutted your Eaton lands. Cousin Bebe Bebenjohn ++++++++++++++++++ Samuel YEARGAN (~1750-1784) (SAMUEL WAS born AT LEAST BY 1735, PROBABLY IN WALES AS THE NAME EURGAIN IS SHOWN IN THAT COUNTRY.)
Mother: Unknown (YEARGAN) (1ST WF WAS ANNE BOOTH WHO M. SAMUEL YEARGAIN IN CHESTERFIELD CTY., Virginia IN 1752. HAD DAU. ANNE, WHO M. WM ALSTON OF HALIFAX CTY. North Carolina, AND LATER LIVED IN CHATHAM CTY., North Carolina. YEARGAIN M. 2ND MARY GRAY, WID. OF CHRISTOPHER CLIncH OF BRUNSWICK CTY., Virginia NO CHILDREN BY MARY. MARY DID HAVE A CHILD BY CLIncH NAMED ELIZABETH. ELIZABETH IS NAMED IN YEARGAIN'S WARREN CTY. WILL AS WIFE OF SUGAR JONES. YEARGAN M. 3RD SARAH YAncEY WHO HAD THE JACONIAS YAncEY LINE BACK TO HANOVER CTY., Virginia SARAH'S MOTHER WAS A KIMBROUGH PRIOR TO M. 1ST TO WILLIAM ALSTON, SON OF OLD COL. JOHN ALSTON OF CHOWAN CTY. SHE M. 2ND JACONIAS YAncEY AND LIVED NEAR HALIFAX IN HALIFAX County.) ++++++++++++++++ Samuel Yeargain's 1784 Warren County. will himself. I have it and Sam. clearly states several times "my daughter Ann, wife of William Alston"
+++++++++++++++++++++ Samuel Yeargain had three wives. 1. Ann Booth. Their dau., Ann Yeargain, married Lt. Col. William Alston, son of Joseph John and Betsy Chancy Alston.
Yeargain m. 2. Mary Gray, wid. of Christopher Clinch. She had one child by Clinch, Elizabeth, and none by Yeargain. The 1784 Warren Cty. will of Samuel Yeargain names Elizabeth Clinch as the wf of Sugar Jones.
Yeargain married 3. Sarah Yancey, dau. of Jaconias Yancey and Hannah/Ann (Kimbrough) Alston of Halifax Cty. Samuel Yeargain and Sarah Yancey of Warren Cty., n. side of the Roanoke River, had one child, Sarah Yancey Yeargain. Groves mistakingly paired my Lt. Col. Wm Alston with this baby as opposed to her much older 1/2 sister Ann. Groves said that Sarah Yancey Yeargain m. - Alston (can't remember given name, but think John) and that they had no issue.
Warren County , North Carolina Will Bk 4 page 66 (A) Will of Samuel Yeargain: 24 Dec. 1784; Jan. Ct. 1785 Names: dtr. Frances Jones, wife of Francis Jones; Dtr. in law, Eliz. Jones, wife of Sugar Jones, who was Eliz. Clinch.
Anne Booth and Samuel Yeargain m. in Chesterfield County , Virginia in 1752, had baby Anne. Mother Anne died and Samuel moved to Northampton County , North Carolina, (Over 1,000 acres/deeds there) the wedge above the Roanoke River which became part of new Warren County in late 1770's. Samuel then m. Mary Gray, wid. of Christopher Clinch of Brunswick County Virginia and therefore had stepdau., Elizabeth Clinch who m. Sugar Jones (proven by Samuel's 1785/6 will, Warren County Mary d. and Samuel m. Sarah Yancey, dau. of Jaconias and Hannah (Kimbrough) Alston of Halifax County North Carolina. Their child, Sarah Yancey Yeargain m. Thomas Alston, no issue.
