Notes |
- He appears first on record in the 1793 tax list of Wilkes Co., GA. Though his place of birth is given in the 1850 census as North Carolina, it was most probably Lunenburg Co., VA, and his family moved southward when he was a child. He and his brothers came to Wilkes Co. in the year 1793. His name is also found on the Wilkes Militia Roll, 1784-1815, as a private in the 2nd Company, 1st. Battalion, 4th Regiment on 2 October, 1793. Later that year, part of Wilkes was placed in the new county of Warren; and he is found on the 1794 Warren tax digest with land holdings of 100 acres on Little Bryer Creek. By 1805, when he participated in the state land lotery, he was living in neighboring Washington Co., where he was still living at the time of 1807 lottery. (See more in written Goza notes.)
