Notes |
- PARENTS: Andrew PANCAKE names an unborn child in 1786 when he wrote his will. Whether or not that is Betsey is not known for sure; however, Betsey names two of her sons Abraham & Isaac, names of two of the sons of Andrew. The names of the PANCAKEs who show up in early Southern Ohio records are the same names as Andrew & Elizabeth's children, so this adds to the preponderance of evidence in this case. I think further proof can be found.
PARENTS: Don Bowman II, in a letter dated 30 April 1994, wrote "Andrew Pancake's will was written on 23 October 1786 and proved on 11 September 1793 in Hampshire Co., Virginia...lists 9 children (5 boys & 4 girls). Of these children, John and Joseph were the only ones with families by the time Betsey was born, however, as of the 1784 census, Joseph had died, leaving his wife Catherine with two children. It is by this only, that I think John Pancake was Betsey's father." Since Elizabeth PANCAKE was pregnant when the will was written (I have a photocopy), it is just as likely, if not more so, that she is the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth. It would be interesting to find out what happened to John and his children. Some Pancakes end up in other areas in Ohio. [Bob Juch: John's daughter, Elizabeth, married Andrew Roseboom. I have found most of John's children.]
