  One day, the 16th of July 1860, in a thicket in Garrard County his body was found, but the living principle which once occupied it was gone, stripped of his money and other valuables. The cause thereof was never known. He might have died of heart disease of which it is said he was affected, or he might have been murdered and robbed. His death is likely to remain a mystery in time to all save the omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent God. [History and Genealogies, W.H. Miller, 1907]
