- The Carrington Family of VA, from Natl. Gen. Soc. Quarterly, Vol. 70 (1982), p. 265 - In 1771/2, Col. Edward visited Barbados to collect a legacy of 3500 pounds from the estate of his uncle, Codrington Carrington, who died in 1764. Edward was a lawyer, soldier, Federalist Party leader, vestryman, member of Cumberland Co. Comm. of Safety, Capt. of Cumberland Co. minuteman co, Lt. Col. VA First cont. Artillery Regt. Deputy Quartermaster General of the Southern Army from 1780-8; served in Battles of Monmouth, Guilford Cthse., Hobkirk's Hill, and Yorktown. Member House of Delegates (VA) 1784-88, member of the continental Congress, 1786-8; Federal Marshall, Supervisor of Revenue, VA; Mayor of Richmond, 1806 and 1809. Died intestate. No issue.
