Notes |
- On Dec. 10, 1868 Escambia County was formed. Brewton became a town on Feb. 13, 1885. Originally known as Newport because it became a new port with barges making runs to Pensacola, Fl and back on the Murder and Burnt Corn Creeks. The coming of the railroad in 1861 and building of a depot run by Edmund Troupe Brewton as Station Agent brought about the eventual change of the name of that place of Brewton Station, later shortened to Brewton.
