Charles and Lou A have been married 17 years and she has had 3 children and 3 are living.

This has to be your Charles Averett and his family. Lou A then must be Lou A Blackburn. You could write to Santa Cruz Co and try and get their marriage record. They married 1882/3. I dont know why he says his parents born Maine but that is what it had, another famous mistake by the careless census taker. His parents were born Ga.

I ran the Calif Soundex for 1900 for Averetts, Alexander Lewis and Benjamin McGruder and only found Charles J above. I also ran the 1880 CA Soundex and only found Alvis Early, he must have been the first one to go to Califonia. I ran the Texas Soundex for 1880 for the McGruders and Lewis too and came up with nothing. Do you know where they were in 1880, Calif or Texas? You can probably find Charles and family in 1910 Santa Cruz Co if you have time to run census records.

Take care Nelda

THE DAILY APPEAL MARYSVILLE CALIFORNIA, THURSDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 23, 1905

REMAINS OF MRS. HOUSH ARRIVE
Death Believed to Have Resulted From Dropsy of the Heart

The remains of the late Mrs. George P. Housh, a pioneer resident of Yuba county, who died rather suddenly on Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. E. Turner at Broderick, Yolo county, arrived last evening at the undertaking parlors of J. K. Kelly.

The deceased was a native of Illinois and was aged 65 years and 3 months. She was the daughter of James Evans, who resides at Brownsville, and who is over 90 years of age.

The deceased, who was Catherine Evans, came to California in 1852 and married Geo. P. Housh. One son, Thomas J. Housh, and four daughters, Mrs. W. E. Turner, of Broderick, Mrs. William Nelson [correction: Wilson] of San Francisco; Mrs. George Osland of Broderick, and Mrs. Henry Clemons of Challenge, live to mourn her demise.

The Housh family are well known in the vicinity of the Oregon House, Indiana Ranch, Browns Valley, and Marysville. The deceased was the sister of "Doc" Evans of Gridley, the well known stockman, of Frank P. Evans of Frenchtown, of Mrs. Richter of Gridley, and of Mrs. Shattuck of Port Townsend, Washington, and Mrs. J. A. Broyles of Chico. The husband of the deceased conducted the Oregon House for a number of years, and then sold out to Mrs. Sarah Phelan and moved to Browns Valley. He ran a daily stage to Browns Valley for several years.

The deceased was a generous and warm hearted woman, who had a large circle of friends and acquaintances in Yuba county, by all of whom she was loved and much respected.

Her daughter, Mrs. Turner, stated that death had resulted, she had no doubt, from dropsy of the heart.

The internment will take place in the family plot in the Indiana Ranch cemetery at 11 o'clock this forenoon by the side of her husband.
