    Following is from "History of Boone County".

    David Rice was born in Hardin county, Kentucky, September 4th, 1800. He is the son of John and Patsy (Johnson) Rice. When nineteen years of age, he came to Boone County. His father came a year later. They settled at Boone's Lick. In 1821 moved to the Bonne Femme, four miles southeast of McConathy's mill. He was a farmer, and his son, David, was brought up in the same occupation. Was married, March 22nd, 1829, to Miss Sallie, daughter of Higgason and Nancy Harris. They have had nine children. Mr. and Mrs. Rice are both members of the Baptist Church. Mr. Rice has been a communicant for sixty years. Mr. Rice had a contract for furnishing lumber for the capitol building at Jefferson City, and rafted to that city three hundred pieces of timber. Mrs. Rice has a counterpane which she spun and wove with her own hands sixty years ago.

In 1826 served on a Boone Co., MO jury. In 1830: nearby households were David, Thomas, Tyre. On 26 Aug 1839, Boone County, Higgason Harris and A.W. Turner witnessed the will of William Jones, Sr.

    Nancy Garland may have been 1/2 Native American. Garlands in early Kentucky ( from Alicia Towster): On 8 May 1783 Peter Garland of VA obtained a military bounty for 4000 acres in KY due for 3 years as a Captain in the Continental Line. On 22 Nov 1783, Lincoln Co. (later Madison Co), KY, Jno Garland filed 3 entries on a branch of Casey's Creek/River; on 1 Jan 1784, an entry below Bryant's Lick; total size about 70,000 acres. In 1800, John Garland and Thomas Garland appear on Madison Co. tax lists (1800 census of KY). Thomas Garland, over 45, appears in the 1810 Madison Co., KY census. Marriages: 16 Dec 1800, Madison Co., KY, Higgason Harris m. Nancy Garland. 2 Jun 1803, Madison Co., KY, Tyre Harris m. Sally Garland. In 1805, Madison Co., KY, Robert Garland married Jane Flack (likely the same Robert that appears in Warren County, KY, with Higgason Harris in 1810; he does not, however, appear on the 1830 census index for Missouri).
