    GEO. HOUSH DEAD.
The Passing of an Old Resident of Yuba County.
George P. Housh, who had been very ill with pneumonia for the past two weeks, died at 9:45 yesterday morning at his home, a mile from Browns Valley. By his death Yuba county loses one of its best known landmarks. There was no better hearted man in the entire county, and the announcement of this death will be heard with feelings of deep regret.
The deceased was born in Indiana, and was 66 years of age. He came to California with the grand old pioneers in 1850, and soon settled in Foster Bar township, and after mining for some time, engaged in the teaming business between the mountain towns and Marysville. He later purchased the hotel property, known as the Oregon House, and for nearly a quarter of a century acted well the part of the genial host, his affable manner winning for him a host of friends.
When Brown's Valley commenced to boom again and its hidden golden treasures attracted capitalists from abroad, Mr. Housh moved to that district where he located his family, and with his son, J. B. Housh, purchased the Camptonville stage route; later they sold out their interest. A short time afterwards Mr. Housh embarked again in the stage business, running a daily stage between Marysville and Brown's Valley. He was thus engaged when he contracted a severe cold that turned into pneumonia, to which he finally succumbed.
About thirty-four years ago the deceased married Miss Kate Evans, a daughter of James Evans who resides at the old Jefferson House, and sister of "Doc" Evans, a well-known resident of Gridley, Miss Belle House of San Francisco, Misses Rachael and May Housh of Browns Valley, Joshua Housh of Browns Valley, Joshua Bunch, Thomas and Nelson; all three sons being residents of Yuba county.
The deceased was a member of Camptonville Lodge, A.O.U.W., and of Yuba Lodge, No. 5, I.O.O.F. He carried a policy of $2000 in the Workmen, which is made payable to his widow.
Deceased was elected Constable for Browns Valley at the last election, and was also a Deputy Sheriff for the county.
There were fewer residents of Yuba county more widely known than George Housh, and all who knew him admired the many hearty traits of the old Californian.
His many friends in Marysville join those throughout the county in tendering to his widow and bereaved family their sympathy.
The funeral cortege will leave his late residence at Brown's Valley tomorrow (Friday) morning at 8 o'clock and proceed to the Indiana Ranch cemetery, where the I.O.O.F. burial services will be conducted by the officers and members of Brownsville Lodge, I.O.O.F.

George married Catharine E Evans about 1862 in Yuba County, California, USA. Catharine (daughter of James Allison Evans and Martha Addy) was born on 1 Sep 1841 in Shelby County, Illinois, USA; died on 21 Nov 1905 in Broderick, Yolo, California, USA; was buried on 25 Nov 1905 in Indiana Ranch, Yuba County, CA.
