Christopher married Sierra Nevada Ogan on 9 Nov 1870 in San Jose, Santa Clara County, CA. Sierra (daughter of John Martin Ogan and Lucy Ann Harris) was born on 3 Aug 1853 in near Mud Flat, NV; died on 24 Jun 1938 in Berryessa, Santa Clara County, CA; was buried in Oak Hill Cem., San Jose, Santa Clara County, CA. Notes:

Sierra Nevada Ogan was born at Mud Flat, Utah Territory (now Nevada), near the base of the Sierra Nevadas before the wagon train ascended Carson River up over Carson Pass. The scars of the chains and winches used to pull the wagons up the steep grade were still visible on the large Lodgepole pines along the route near the top of the pass (personal note, Chet Ogan, 1992).

John Martin Ogan was born in Madison Co., KY, in 1812. With his parents he emigrated to Missouri in 1815, settling near Midway, Boone Co. About 1835 he moved to Linn Co., MO. The family moved to California in 1853 with James Simeral Ogan via the Carson Pass. -I do certify that I joined in the bonds of matrimony on the 6th day of august 1835 John Ogan Jr. to Miss Lucy Harris all of the County of Boone State of Missouri. I thank Alice Maxey Topham ( ) for arrangement and dates of Harris children. In 1819 he came to Boone Co., MO and settled on Bonne Femme Creek. (Alicia Towster). In 1826 served on a Boone Co., MO jury. In 1830: nearby households were David, Thomas, Tyre. On 26 Aug 1839, Boone County, Higgason Harris and A.W. Turner witnessed the will of William Jones, Sr.

Higgason married Nancy Garland on 16 Dec 1800 in Madison County, KY. Nancy (daughter of Thomas Garland) was born about 1780 in Virginia, USA; died before 1840. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Nancy Garland may have been 1/2 Native American. Garlands in early Kentucky ( from Alicia Towster): On 8 May 1783 Peter Garland of VA obtained a military bounty for 4000 acres in KY due for 3 years as a Captain in the Continental Line. On 22 Nov 1783, Lincoln Co. (later Madison Co), KY, Jno Garland filed 3 entries on a branch of Casey's Creek/River; on 1 Jan 1784, an entry below Bryant's Lick; total size about 70,000 acres. In 1800, John Garland and Thomas Garland appear on Madison Co. tax lists (1800 census of KY). Thomas Garland, over 45, appears in the 1810 Madison Co., KY census. Marriages: 16 Dec 1800, Madison Co., KY, Higgason Harris m. Nancy Garland. 2 Jun 1803, Madison Co., KY, Tyre Harris m. Sally Garland. In 1805, Madison Co., KY, Robert Garland married Jane Flack (likely the same Robert that appears in Warren County, KY, with Higgason Harris in 1810; he does not, however, appear on the 1830 census index for Missouri).
