According to Georgia Archives, Francis III was a Revolutionary Soldier and was killed by the Tories about 1780 or 1781. His wife, Jemima, sold provisions to the Revolutionary Army.

Subsequent to the death of her husband, Francis Fontaine III, Jemima married Benjamin Bruton in 1785 and had moved to Warren County, Georgia by May 18, 1794.
Served in the Revolutionary War as listed in the DAR Patriot Index, Centennial Edition. Jemima sold provisions to the Revolutionary Army and thus is listed as being in the Patriot Service in SC.
