    "Nicholas Camp, immigrant ancestor, was born in England and came from Nazeing, county Essex to this country in 1638. He was at Watertown, Massachusetts for a time, then at Wethersfield, Connecticut, and in 1639 appears at Guilford, Connecticut. As early as 1646 he had a house, lot of 6 acres, one right and two parcels, in Milford, Connecticut. His name is on the list of free planters of Milford dated November 20, 1639. He joined the Milford Church November 2, 1643. He was taxed on one hundred and ninety-nine pounds of property at Milford in 1686. He died there in 1706."     Nicholas arrived in 1631 with wife Sarah and John Eliot at New Haven aboard the ship Lyon. DAR Magazine, Vol XLVI, 1915, pg.343. It is believed that Nicholas Jr. was born aboard the ship.

    John Camp was frequently called "John, the elder" because he had a son John who was also well know around Nazeing Parish. John's profession was listed as a yeoman which means he was a farmer who owned his own land.

    "The will of John Camp the elder of Nazeing, Co. Essex, yeoman, dated 21 May 1630, proved 11 Jun 1630. Bequeaths to sons John, George, Nicholas, Thomas; to daughters Mary and Sarah; to grandchildren Elizabeth and John Camp; to John Eliot my grandchild when he reaches age 18 years; residue to wife, Mary, who is named executrix; desires his good friends Richard and William Camp to be overseers."     To Richard my eldest son my tenement called Snowes with appurtenances in his tenure; my tenement called Cramphornes with appurtenances in the tenure of John Skete; lands called Cottlands (5 acres); 1 acres in Nazeing Mead called Cottlands Mead; my leases (small parcels of meadow) in Nazeing Marsh; 2 acres of arable in Common (open) Field at Priest Field Corner; and 1 acre of land at Birch Croft Gore.

    To Besse Baker my servant, John Baker and Joan Borne each an ewe.

    My will is that my wife pay to Joan and Mary my daughters at marriage 23 pounds apiece. The residue of my good to my wife whom I make my executrix. I desire my brother John Bannyster to be my overseer, and for his pains 10s.
