  • Notes
    • IONE BECOME ILL WHILE LIVING IN GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI AND DIED OF A TYPE OF BLOOD POISONING ASSOCIATED WITH AN INFLAMED GULL BLADDER. THE FOLLOWING WAS TAKEN FROM THE GUIDE ROCK SIGNAL ON THURSDAY JULY 14, 1949. GLADYS IONE HENRY WAS BORN TO ULRIC AND VERNA HENRY ON JULY 19, 1918, AT GUIDE ROCK, NE. SHE PASSED AWAY JULY 6, 1949, IN GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI, AT THE AGE OF 30 YEAARS, 11 MONTHS AND 14 DAYS. HER ENTIRE LIFE WAS SPENT IN GUIDE ROCK UNTIL HER MARRIAGE TO CARL WHITE ON FEBRUARY 15, 1938. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH OF CHRIST. SHE WORKED HARD EVERY DAY OF HER LIFE FOR HER LORD AND HIS CHURCH. SHE WAS FAITHFUL UNTIL DEATH. BECAUSE OF HER LIFE AND THE THINGS SHE DID, EVERYONE SPOKE WELL OF HER AND KNEW THAT SHE WAS A CHRISTIAN. JESUS SAID: "LET YOUR LIGHT SO SHINE BEFORE MEN THAT THEY MAY SEE YOUR GOOD WORKS AND GLORIFY YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN." THIS WAS TRUE IN IONE'S LIFE. ALL WHO KNEW HER AND ASSOCIATED WITH HER WERE INFLUENCED BY HER LIFE. PRECEDING HER IN DEATH WERE A BABY SON ON JANUARY 20, 1939, AND HER FATHER, ULRIC HENRY, WHO PASSED AWAY JUST THREE MONTHS AGO. OF HER IMMEDIATE FAMILY SHE LEAVES TO MOURN HER PASSING HER HUSBAND, CARL WHITE, TWO DAUGHTERS, KATHLEEN ANNE AND KAREN GLYN, HER MOTHER, MRS. VERNA HENRY, TWO BROTHERS, GLEN AND NEIL, HER UNCLE, WIN HENRY AND A GREAT NUMBER OF OTHER RELATIVES AND FRIENDS. THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE METHODIST CHURCH IN GUIDE ROCK WITH SERMON BY REV. WARREN HOCKMAN. THE FOLLOWING TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF GLADYS IONE WHITE WAS WRITTEN BY HOWARD E. MCENTEE, MINISTER OF THE GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI CHURCH OFCHRIST: "IT IS FREQUENTLY THE MINISTER'S PAINFUL DUTY TO TRY TO FIND FITTING WORDS AS HE STANDS OVER THE BIER OF ONE WHO, IN LIFE, DID NOT QUITE FIND TIME FOR GOD, AND TOO OFTEN HE SUCCUMBS TO THE TEMPTATION TO, AS IT WERE, "PREACH THAT ONE INTO HEAVEN." "SUCH IS NOT THE CASE WITH GLADYS IONE WHITE. HER LIFE, UP UNTIL THE UNTIMELY HOUR OF HER DEMISE, WAS ONE OF SIMPLE, YET MAJESTIC ELOQUENCE PORTRAYING THE LOVE OF GOD, AND THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST. HER UNTIRING LABORS FOR HER MASTER WERE BUT A PERSONIFICATION OF JESUS' OWN WORDS ABOUT THAT CITY, SET ON A HILL WHICH COULD NOT BE HID. HER ZEAL, NOT WITHOUT KNOWLELDGE, MADE HER AN ADEPT SCHOLAR OF GOD'S HOLY WRIT AND THROUGH HER STUDY AND MEDITATION SHE GREW IN FAITH AND WAS WELL ACQUAINTED WITH HER LORD WHEN HE CALLED HER." "WITH WILLING HEART AND HAND SHE CHEERFULLY ACCOMPLISHED ANYTHING REQUESTED OF HER IN REGARD TO THE GOOD OF THE CAUSE OF CHRIST, FROM HELPING CLEAN THE HOUSE OF WORSHIP TO VISITING THE SICK OR LENDING A TENDER HAND TO THE WEAK. EVERYONE LOVED HER FOR HER WORK'S SAKE." "IONE'S UNTIMELY PASSING IS A SETBACK TO THE GULFPORT CHURCH OF CHRIST, BUT BECAUSE OF OUR MEMORY OF HER CHARACTER WE ALL ARE STRENGTHENetherlands AND HER INFLUENCE WILL LIVE ON AND ON TO INSPIRE US TO GREATER WORK." "THIS FINAL PERSONAL THOUGHT--WHEN IT COMES MY TIME TO HEAR HIS LOVING CALL I HOPE THAT I MAY BE AS WELL PREPARED TO MEET HIM AS ALL EVIDENCE INDICATES IONE WAS."
