  • Notes
    • BIOGRAPHY: From L. W. Harris e-mail: From 1777 to 1779 he attended Hampden-Sydney Academy and then studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. A student of Phillip Syng Physick, Cabell is said to have been an early advocate of the use of ice and cool drinks to treat fevers & inflammation. The story of Cabell administering the lethal dose of mercury to Patrick Henry, his good friend from Red Hill, Va., is probably true. Dr. George Cabell died in 1823 from injuries received in a fall from his horse. Mrs. Cabell died in 1826. Dr. Cabell's estate was inherited by William Lewis Cabell.
